AGAMA head coach Patson Muzawazi has confirmed that club patron Malvern Moyo assaulted him, blaming the former left back in the Northern Region Soccer League newboys’ defeat by Karoi United.
The debutants were handed a 1-0 defeat by Wonder Ngoko’s Karoi United at Chikangwe last Saturday. It was their second defeat in three games after log leaders Black Rhinos had beaten them 1-0 before they drew 1-1 with PAM at home at Pfura Stadium in Mt Darwin.
Surprisingly, Moyo resorted to violence and now risks facing NRSL sanctions for his conduct.
After the matter surfaced on social media, “Coach Zawe” as Muzawazi is affectionately known in Mt Darwin, wrote to the AGAMA executive committee chairman Emson Chitsungo and his members, formally complaining.
“I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to formally lodge a complaint against Malvern Moyo, the club patron of Agama Football Club, concerning an incident of severe ill treatment and physical assault I endured on July 8, 2024,” wrote Muzawazi.
“On the aforementioned date, I was summoned by Moyo to his mining premises under the impression that he intended to discuss matters regarding my financial entitlements. Instead, Moyo launched into a tirade of verbal abuse, unjustly accusing me of the team’s recent defeat against Karoi United.
“Despite my attempts to provide a factual explanation of the circumstances surrounding our defeat, Moyo became increasingly agitated and physically aggressive towards me. In a blatant display of aggression, Moyo physically attacked me, during which he wielded a brick that struck my arm, causing physical injury and considerable pain,” Moyo said.
The coach also alleged that a worker at Moyo’s premises also joined in on the assault.
“Despite attempts by some of his workers to intervene and restrain the situation, another worker under Moyo’s employ also joined in the assault against me.
“This incident has not only caused me physical harm, but has also left me deeply humiliated and distressed by the unjustifiable conduct displayed by Moyo.
“Such behaviour is unacceptable and breaches both ethical standards and legal boundaries. I am formally requesting that the Agama Football Club address this matter promptly and take appropriate action. Furthermore, through your guidance, I am considering pursuing legal recourse in this matter and would appreciate swift intervention from the club to prevent such incidents from recurring.
“I trust that you will handle this matter with the utmost urgency and sensitivity it deserves. I am willing to provide further details or witness statements to support my complaint.
“Please acknowledge receipt of this complaint at your earliest convenience,” wrote Muzawazi.
Moyo has, however, refuted the allegations.
There were social media claims that the Darwin-based businessman assaulted his coach who has been in charge of the team since it was a social side before joining the ZIFA Mashonaland Central Division Two League and later gaining promotion in to Division One last year.
“I am not aware of where the claims are coming from.
“We are a professional team and we have been doing well and we have lost only three games so there is no need for us to panic to the extent of bashing the coach,” said Moyo.
The NRSL yesterday demanded reports from both the coach and the club patron, via a statement issued by Communication and media officer Yemurai Dyakonda.
“The NRSL has been made aware of the trending information on social media about an altercation, which is alleged to have occurred between the owner and coach of AGAMA FC.
“The league has since requested for official reports from the alleged concerned parties for appropriate action to be commenced where necessary.
“The league takes the well-being and safety of all individuals involved in our competitions seriously and will diligently deal with the matter decisively,” said Dyakonda.
