ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY elderly people from Chivi recently got food aid from the United Family International Church (UFIC) through the Agape Family Care.
The organisation is a brainchild of UFIC co-founder, Prophetess Ruth Makandiwa, who is wife to the church’s leader, Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa.

Speaking during the event, executive director of Agape Family Care, Pastor Rufaro Nyadembera said the move was necessitated by the El Nino-induced drought.

“The lack of rainfall has resulted in severe food shortages that are affecting countless families in our rural areas,” he said.

“Today, we gather here not only to acknowledge the hardship faced by the community but also to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to alleviating the effects of this drought.”

Pastor Nyadembera said plans are on course to extend the programme to other provinces.

“We are here to complement Government’s initiatives and provide the much-needed relief,” he said.

“Our chairperson, Prophetess Ruth Makandiwa has mobilised food assistance for over 150 elderly and disadvantaged people here in Chivi. We believe that by working together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by this crisis.”

The donation included 50 kgs of maize, 4 litres of cooking oil, 4kgs of sugar, 1kg of sugar beans, 2 bars of laundry soap and a bale of clothing for each beneficiary.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Petros Magura (78) commended Agape for the donation.

“This year we did not get anything from our fields because of the drought,” he said.

“I am glad that people like Prophetess Makandiwa still exist. They have remembered us and they have saved many lives in our community.”

Nine hundred girls from local schools also received sanitary wear.
