THE Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development emerged overall champions at the 2026 Inter-Ministerial Sports and Arts Festival held in Gwanda, Matabeleland South, after winning a total of 23 medals.The ministry collected nine gold, 11 silver and three bronze medals, improving significantly from the 10 medals it won last year.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care finished second with six gold, one silver and two bronze medals, while the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education came third with four gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
The Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services finished fourth with four gold and seven bronze medals.
More than 60 officials from the ICT Ministry participated in various sporting and arts disciplines during the festival.
In a statement, the ministry congratulated its participants, saying the team had shown improvement compared to last year.
“More than 60 participants from the Ministry of ICT participated in this year’s Inter Ministerial Sports and Arts Festival. There was a general improvement in terms of medals and trophies acquired this year,” reads part of the statement.
“We congratulate all the winners and everyone who took part in the initiative which seeks to promote healthy living among the workforce.”
The ICT Ministry’s gold medals came from its netball team, the 4x100m above-36 team, Sekai Makaure in the people-with-disabilities 100m, Manasa Hlabati in the 100m above 36 and Josephine Ushe in the 10km marathon.
Other medal winners from the ministry were Trynos Nyoni, who won bronze in the 10km marathon; Mercy Chavaruka, bronze in the 100m above 36; Mitchell Chimanja, bronze in the 100m below 35; Vassman Chidhakwa, bronze in the 200m below 35; the 4x100m below-35 team, which took bronze; and the men’s chess team, which also won bronze.
The annual festival brings together Government ministries and departments in sport and arts as part of efforts to promote employee wellness, healthy living, teamwork and interaction among public sector workers.
