Ah-Sat shoot to top of Byo darts league

The title race is now surely between three clubs, the other two being the Charles Widzisa-captained Railstars and Vaiton Refrigeration-sponsored Archers whose skipper is Mkhululi Dube.

Railstars, who went on an incredible 22-match unbeaten run until they met a ruthless Ah-Sat, proved bad neighbours and ruthless hosts on Wednesday, beating Bellevue 28-11 while Archers prevailed 29-10 over Parkview Kanka who have Nancy Mlambo in their ranks.

“We might have relinquished our top spot but we remain confident of winning the league title come end of season. We respect our opponents but we also have no intention of losing any of our remaining games, especially at home,” said Archers captain Dube.

Leaders Ah-Sat, led by Wayne Brandt, are yet to play Archers at home and just like the Battle of the Titans at Rufaro Stadium yesterday, the match will be a potential championship decider.

Perennial pre-season championship favourites Highlanders handed league punchbags Zenzele a 29-10 defeat, with debutants Zimbabwe School of Mines getting an 8-31 whacking from Old Nic Mine.

Police outfit ZRP (Unit Fairbridge) overcame gold miners How Mine A 28-11 to keep their slim championship hopes alive.

Meanwhile, the association will have two leagues next year in a bid to increase competition and improve the league’s brand to the corporate world.

Association organising secretary, Lethukuthula Nkomo confirmed the plans.

“It will however depend on the number of teams that we will have next year. If the number is 18 and above, we will certainly have two leagues with the top eight teams at the end of this year forming the top league and the rest going to the second tier,” said Nkomo.

The announcement will definitely add more interest and increase competition in the last few remaining games as teams jostle to survive relegation.
