dedication and commitment to duty despite working under very difficult conditions characterised by low remuneration.
Cde Khaya Moyo who is the patron of the Air Traffic Controllers Association of Zimbabwe called on Government to improve the working conditions of air traffic controllers in the country.
Speaking during celebrations to mark the International Day of Air Traffic Controllers held in Masvingo over the weekend, Cde Khaya Moyo said it was critical to make sure that air traffic controllers were well paid because of the important role they play in making sure that aircraft fly safely.
“Air traffic controllers provide a very critical service for the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe and the country as a whole and their dedication, commitment to duty and patriotism over the years is unquestionable.
“As I have implored before that management should find ways of improving working conditions of air traffic controllers, it is disturbing to note that little progress has been made in that regard.”
He said there was need to improve the quality of training that is accorded to air traffic controllers through continuous upgrading of skills equipment and specialised training.
The organisation needs continuous upgrading of skills, equipment and specialised training to adequately equip air traffic controllers to cope with new challenges and expectations and the simulator at the training school needs to be upgraded and instructors recruited or appointed to man the school,” he said.
Speaking at the same occasion the association’s president Mr Evans Makuku said members had a critical role to play in maintaining safety in the skies and required not only expertise but dedication and commitment to duty.
