AIRTIME DEAL CON Binga man locked up

A BINGA man was slammed with a 24-month prison term after he went on a shopping spree with money he was entrusted to buy airtime recharge cards.

Kelvin Muzamba (27) was convicted at the Binga Magistrates’ Court for theft of trust property after duping Birthman Misi of USD$2 640.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Misi had given Muzamba the cash “with specific instructions to buy airtime recharge cards.”

But instead of following the agreement, the statement read Muzamba “converted the money to his own personal use.”

The scam came to light when Misi demanded his cash back after noticing that the recharge cards had not been purchased. Muzamba failed to give any explanation. The NPA confirmed that “the entire sum of USD$2 640 was stolen and nothing was recovered.”

Justice caught up with him last week. He was slapped with a 24-month jail term, of which 8 months was suspended for 5 years. Another 8 months was suspended on condition that he restitutes Misi before 30 November 2025.

The NPA said the conviction was part of its ongoing fight against corruption and crime, stressing: “Combating Crime and Corruption.”
