adminAirZim acting chief executive officer, Mr Innocent Mavhunga said he met with the workers and explained the airline’s status. “I met them to discuss the situation yesterday (Thursday), I explained to them our current status,” he said.
“Some workers are at work today while others are not. I told them that Government has made it clear that they are doing something about Air Zimbabwe and I believe it’s just a matter of time before things work out.”
Some workers who spoke to our sister paper on condition of anonymity said they would not report for duty until they were paid. “We have gone for eight months without pay but promises only,” said one of the workers.
“What can make us believe that this time around we are going to get the money when they failed to fulfill their promises for the past eight months?”
The employees on Thursday demanded the immediate resignation of the management and board for failing to pay them outstanding salaries and retrenchment packages.
The disgruntled workers gathered at the national airline’s offices at the Harare International Airport to protest non-payment of their salaries.
