ALEXIO KAWARA, best known for his timeless hit Shaina, is embracing a new chapter in his career through live-band performances and fresh love songs.
The singer, whose earlier hits cemented his place in Zimbabwe’s music scene, said his renewed focus on live performances was helping him rediscover his creative identity while connecting with both longtime fans and younger audiences.
Speaking to Zimpapers, Kawara said performing with a live band had transformed his artistry, sharpening his musical skills and deepening his connection with audiences.
His latest approach combines the nostalgia associated with his earlier work with new sounds and themes, particularly love songs, as he seeks to appeal to audiences across generations.
“It has been almost 18 years since I started playing with a band,” he said.
“Besides the presentation, it has helped me to improve my skills as a vocalist, mbira player and performer.”
He expressed joy at seeing his songs resonate with children and choirs, underscoring the generational reach of his work.
“It is every musician’s dream to have their music outlive them. I have even seen choirs perform,” he said.
“That alone brings me satisfaction to know that my music still speaks across all generations.”
Kawara attributed the longevity of his music to sincerity and quality rather than formula.
“All I have ever done was to write music from my heart,” he said.
“The first person who must appreciate it is myself.”
He revealed plans to release four tracks this year, beginning with a wedding-season love song, alongside upcoming live shows.
“People have been asking for love songs and that is what I will give them. There are definitely a few live shows coming up before the end of the year, starting this September,” he said.
