Afro Jazz crooner Alexio Kawara who recently returned from his inaugural tour of the United States says the visit was an important experience for his career. Alexio was in the United States performing at the Rock for Human Rights concerts where he shared the stage with American rock star Wil Seabrook. In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Alexio said since it was his first time in the US, the concerts were an eye-opener and he would use his US experience to improve his music and stage work.
“I had a great time and I learnt a lot from fellow musician Seabrok and I am sure this will help me in my musical career. We had public performances in North Carolina, and we moved from a number of colleges performing before appreciative crowds. We also had some street performances,” he said.
“The turnout at most shows was average and I think it is because this is the first time the tour has been conducted. But I am happy that those who came to my shows enjoyed my music and the mbira instrument was loved by many. Overally, I must say I was given a warm response such that I felt at home,” he said.
Rock for Human Rights was launched with the intent to bring human rights awareness to diverse audiences including college students using the power of music, visual media and social networks.
Alexio, who fronts the Shades of Black, is currently working on his fourth album “Oyi” which is set for release in December this year.
He has already released one single from the album called “Zvazvinhu”.
Songs from the upcoming album, which features Roki on the song “Chakaipa” and Beitbridge-based LT on “Zvazvinhu”, has been warmly received during live shows.
Another song called “Nehana” is also a potential hit from the album.
