Ali’s daughter opens up

PHOENIX. — Muhammad Ali’s daughter, Hana Ali, has opened up on what it was like during her father’s final moments.

Ali, considered the greatest boxer of all time, died in a hospital in Phoenix after being admitted due to respiratory complications.

Taking to Twitter, Hana Ali provided a moving account of the time she and her family had spent with Ali as he died.

According to Hana Ali, her father’s heart kept beating for half an hour after the rest of his organs had failed.

“No one had ever seen anything like it,” Hana Ali wrote. “A true testament to the strength of his spirit and will.”

Hana Ali thanked members of the public for the support they had given.

“Our hearts are literally hurting,” she wrote.

“But we are so happy daddy is free now.”

A public funeral for Ali is expected to take place on Friday in Louisville.

President Barack Obama, who keeps a pair of boxing gloves worn by Ali in his private study off the Oval Office, said on Saturday that Ali “shook up the world and the world is better for it”.

Obama likened Ali, who died Friday, to other civil rights leaders of his era, and said the boxer stood with Martin Luther King Jr and Nelson Mandela in fighting for what was right. — AFP.
