All city roads to be refurbished

Harare City Council has started resurfacing roads in the Central Business District in partnership with the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration. The programme has started with Julius Nyerere and is expected to spread to other roads.

In an interview town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi said $5 million had been released towards the project so far. He said council will next week announce two other partners it has engaged in the road repair project but would not name the firms.

“The companies to be involved in the project will be doing so as part of their corporate social responsibility programmes and will only be announced on Tuesday next week (tomorrow),” said Dr Mahachi.

“Our programme is to transform the city to make sure that our roads are trafficable. Our aim is to have pothole free roads. We have been doing pothole patching, spray and chip, and overlays in roads in the city and work is still in progress.”

Dr Mahachi said council’s target was to repair all roads before the onset of rains later this year.
