ALL EYES ON KHAMA

THE madness has eclipsed Peter Ndlovu’s return to domestic football in 2011 — exactly 20 years after he left as a teenage forward destined for the stars.

It has all been about Khama Billiat to such an extent that, even on Twitter yesterday, his story was trending more than Delta Beverages’ latest multi-million dollar sponsorship package of domestic football.

The US$3.39 million package, spread over three years, was unveiled in Harare yesterday.

But, on Twitter and other social media platforms, it was once again all about Billiat demonstrating, once again, that the footballer still commands a lot of attention even as he negotiates the final phase of his successful career.

Billiat was scheduled to be unveiled yesterday but the function was moved to next week as it coincided with the PSL ceremony to unveil their latest romance with Delta Beverages.

So, what did the new handlers of Billiat do?

They flew him to Victoria Falls to help him escape all the razzmatazz which has been following him since he arrived in the capital this week.

But, still, the madness continued on the social media platforms and scanning through them it was difficult to imagine that tomorrow Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum will play in the Castle Challenge Cup at Baobab.

On those streets, it’s like the match doesn’t exist.

Everything is about Billiat and there are some strange tales being peddled out there.

One of them is that businessman Scott Sakupwanya, a partner of Yadah Stars, convinced Billiat to join the Miracle Boys on a US$20 000 signing-on fee and US$3 500 monthly salary.

Mr Tich, a sports anchor on ZTN Prime, said DeMbare had lost most of their high-profile targets this off-season with Obriel Chirinda going to Ngezi Platinum, Walter Musona choosing Simba Bhora , Mthokozisi Msebe going to Chicken Inn and Billiat moving to Yadah Stars.

The guys at MDM News said Yadah will pay Billiat a monthly salary of R95 000.
