THE annual Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival starts tomorrow with most eyes already fixed on the final day clash between hosts Prince Edward and eternal rivals Churchill.
Prince Edward centre Ryan Mutandwa provides the interesting angle, having recently moved from Churchill.
The 17-year-old schoolboy is looking forward to the final day match-up.
“Facing Churchill for the very first time is something I am really looking forward to. I am very curious to see what they have been up to since I left. I also want to see how I fare against the guys I used to call family, guys who know me very well,” he says.
“There is always pressure when one comes against their former teammates. For me there is already talk that my decision to move was misplaced and that I will not amount to anything at PE.
“I am very much looking forward to silencing those people with a five-star performance, and hopefully leading my team to victory.”
But before Mutandwa faces his former team, the festival kicks off with hype around the Bangladeshi women’s rugby team, Churchill’s first clash against St George’s College in five years, and Hillcrest College who have just been promoted to the Super Eight division.
Festival director Tawanda Jimu is looking forward to an explosive event.
“I can safely say that we are good to go. All the teams have confirmed their participation and we look forward to seeing the best of Zimbabwean schools rugby.
“The festival is getting bigger and better with each passing year and there is no doubt that the 2018 edition will be another one to remember,” he said.
