Divas in Action Zimbabwe, an organisation that pushes for women’s issues, is set to host an all-female artistes musical gala at Pakare Paya in Norton on July 15.

The upcoming gala, which marks the 7th edition of Divas in Action Zimbabwe annual gala, is expected to have 56 female artists performing on the date.

In an interview with The Herald Arts yesterday, Divas in Action founder Sarah Dee said the gala was about promoting female upcoming artistes and showcasing their talents to open avenues to grow their music careers.

“We are tired of complaining and not being heard,” she said.

“We want our arts to be known so we created a platform where we cannot be taken advantage of because our promoters want money to publicise our songs. We say enough is enough, we can create our platforms and move on as independent artistes. Now, promoters should not have a task asking which type of music one sings because we are determined to rewrite our success stories.

“We do not want females to be treated less and be poorly paid. We have taken a step which shows that we value our artistes, these are our professionals.”

Sarah Dee said the gala was a platform aimed at giving a chance to artistes who did not have a stage to be in the spotlight and have their work embraced.

“We want to create an avenue where every a female artiste is treated fairly and given a chance to showcase talent,” she said.

Sarah Dee said upcoming female artistes were facing difficulties as promoters were ignoring them in favour of those already in the spotlight who brought more business.

She said they were inviting sponsors and promoters willing to do trials with upcoming artistes and open a way for them to be familiar with the industry. Sarah Dee said the gala was among a cocktail of interventions that will open a series of opportunities for upcoming female artistes in Zimbabwe.
