ALL is set for the 2026 Olympiad Checkmate Schools Chess Championship at Wise Owl Primary School on August 1.
The tournament, now running for the fifth year, has received support from King Kurls and Colcom, among other corporates.
Olympiad Checkmate Schools Chess Championship is one of Zimbabwe’s leading primary school chess events, attracting over 200 participants from top schools.
Organised by Olympiad Academy and endorsed by the Zimbabwe Chess Federation, the championship promotes critical thinking, discipline, strategy, and leadership among young learners from Under- 8, Under 10, Under 12, and Under 14 categories.
Event oganiser, Taona Magede, said he was looking forward to the tournament that was last won by Runyararo Primary School from Ruwa, Goromonzi District.
“We are happy to announce the dates for this year’s edition of the King Kurls Olympiad Checkmate Schools Chess Championship to be held on August 1 at Wise Owl Group of Schools. This year’s championship is proudly supported by King Kurls as the title sponsor, together with Colcom Foods and Hove and Associates, whose support continues to strengthen the growth of junior chess in Zimbabwe.
“We encourage schools to complete their registrations before the closing date as preparations for the championship enter their final stages.
“The Olympiad Academy extends its appreciation to the Zimbabwe Chess Federation, participating schools, sponsors, and partners for their continued support. The winners in each age category, together with outstanding schools and performers, will be recognised at the conclusion of the championship,” said Magede.
