THE Bloodstock South Africa Grade (3) race, the second leg of the Triple Crown set for Sunday at Borrowdale Racecourse is flashing like a beacon on the horizon. It will be contested over a stayers distance of 2,000 metres.  The custodian of horse racing in Zimbabwe, Mashonaland Turf Club, has set the ball rolling by pushing out a provisional list of horses to do battle on the day. This Bloodstock South Africa race has $9,000 stake money.

A lean field of nine top class thoroughbred runners have been thrown into the ring to fight for the available slots in this event. Trainer Gokhan Terzi the champion trainer for the Zimoco Ipi Tombi race last Sunday has the highest number of nominees after submitting three long distances runners.

Terzi has unleashed Eversolucky winner of the GWM Steed race on March 9 at Borrowdale, Latin Queen and Marhaba.  From this list submitted by Terzi Eversolucky carries the hopes of the stable on his saddle after being rated good at (78). On the other hand Merhaba is the odd one out after being entered as the least rated runner from the stable and among the rest of the field. Trainers Bridget Stidolp, Alyson Wright and Amy Bronkhorst have submitted two nominees each.

For now the bragging rights are held by Bridget after Mica Point won the first leg of the Triple Crown in February. The pressure is certainly on her as Mica Point is expected to carry over from where she left during the first leg. Ironically, Lucky Sam who won the Republic Cup and the Bloodstock South Africa last season (2013-2014) hails from the stable of Bridget Stidolp.
