ALL is set for the official opening of the Dr Auxilia Mnangagwa School of Nursing at Muduvuri Pan African Hospital, with construction teams working tirelessly to put the final touches to the facility ahead of next week’s landmark event.
Workers are racing against time, some clocking long hours into the night, to ensure the institution meets expected standards before it opens its doors to its pioneer intake.
The school, a pilot private Registered General Nursing training institution, marks a significant milestone in efforts to bolster Zimbabwe’s healthcare training capacity.
First Lady Dr Auxilia Mnangagwa is expected to officiate at the official opening ceremony, underscoring the importance of the initiative in strengthening the country’s health sector.
A visit by Zimpapers today revealed intense activity at the site, with construction crews busy completing key sections of the institution.
Founder and director Mr Jimaya Muduvuri expressed confidence that all preparations would be completed on time.
“We are putting the final touches on the infrastructure ahead of the opening next week. As you can see, there is significant progress, with workers committed to ensuring everything is ready,” he said.
Interest in the school has been overwhelming, with about 3 000 aspiring nurses submitting applications.
Following a rigorous and highly competitive selection process conducted over the past two weeks, only 20 candidates were successfully admitted into the inaugural intake.
Mr Muduvuri said there are ambitious plans to expand the institution in the near future to accommodate more students and contribute meaningfully to the country’s healthcare workforce.
