Organisers of the Ecobank Legends Night have announced that preparations are in full swing for the 5th edition of the highly anticipated event this weekend at Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).

The event, which is dedicated to all local musical legends, has evolved over the years to celebrate the contributions of all Zimbabwean music pioneers.

Hosted by popular boy band “In Total”, the show is set to perform a diverse range of classic and contemporary local songs.

According to the In Total band founder member and director Joseph Chinouriri, he said rehearsals are already underway, and ticket sales are gaining momentum.

“We are at an advanced stage with preparations, and fans are snapping up tickets quickly. We’re expecting a fantastic turnout on the day,” he said.

Chinouriri, a renowned saxophonist, is happy with the partnership with local bank Ecobank in pushing the Legends Night vision.

“The event started in 2019 as a tribute to Oliver Mtukudzi after his passing. I had the privilege of playing with him for several years, and it was only fitting that we honoured his legacy,” he said.

“We later made the event annual and also dedicated it to all legends henceforth we play their music.

“We wanted to create a platform that would recognise the contributions of all Zimbabwean music legends. Hence, the Ecobank Legends Night was born.”

The concert promises to be a nostalgic journey, with the band performing timeless hits that will appeal to music lovers of all ages.

“We’re excited to share this experience with our fans,” said Chinouriri. “

He said the event will be recorded and shared on social media platforms, ensuring that the magic of the night reaches a wider audience.

Chinouriri also shared plans for the Legends Night concept to expand internationally.

“After this April 6, event, we are planning to take the concept globally. We are in talks with friends in Bulawayo, where we want to do the same show in the city.”

“Legends Night is also going to the United Kingdom and the United States, and preparations for that are at an advanced stage. We will furnish you with further details,” he said.

Commenting on their involvement, another partner, Prime Migrations Solutions, Daniel Chikosi said they are supporting the young talents because they believe the arts are capable of transforming realities and inspiring, uplifting, and creating opportunities for generations to come.

“Nurturing emerging artists allows them to hone their skills and ensures that the voices and perspectives of young talent are articulated within the cultural landscape,” he said.

“Partnering with a group of legendary musicians who mentor and model for the proper development of young talents allows for greater support of this initiative.”

He said that additionally, fostering young talent aligns with their commitment to social responsibility through initiatives like the David Seth Foundation, which supports widows and orphans in need by creating pathways for education and artistic expression.

“In the coming years, we expect a vibrant evolution in the arts sector driven by these young talents. As they gain exposure and mentorship from established legends, we anticipate innovative collaborations that blend traditional artistry with contemporary forms.

“This will likely lead to new genres and styles that resonate with a broader audience while preserving cultural heritage. Furthermore, our agency’s recruitment efforts will continue to connect talented individuals with opportunities overseas, expanding their horizons and allowing them to share their unique perspectives on global platforms.”
