All set for handball trophy

ALL is set for the handball Presidential Trophy set for today and tomorrow at Houghton Park Primary School. The tournament will see men and women teams fighting for honours in their respective categories with 24 teams expected to take part.

One of the technical members in the organising committee, Bernard Muzanenhamo, said 12 men and 12 women teams had registered for the event by yesterday,

“From the technical side’s point we are ready to host the tournament. We have marked the grounds and everything is in place.

“We are expecting about 12 men team and 12 women’s teams, those are the teams that have confirmed their participation but we are still looking forward to more teams coming.

“We have teams from Harare, Bulawayo, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland Central, Masvingo and Manicaland. The teams are ready to play,” said Muzanenhamo.

Muzanenhamo said although they have quite a number of teams that have confirmed their participation, they were worried about the quality of competition since clubs have not been taking part in competitive tournaments for the past four months.

“To tell you the truth our teams last played in a competitive competition about three to four months ago and they have been only playing friendly games.

“But we are hoping for a good competition because there have been some improvements since the tournament was started two years ago, especially the type of play,” he said.
