Acting Permanent Secretary for Harare Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mrs Catherine Kampila, says preparations for the 46th Independence Day celebrations at St Aiden’s Primary School in Chitungwiza are 99 percent complete, and all is set for the day.
In an interview, Mrs Kampila said they were at the school today for final rehearsals.
“All is set up now. Tents will be pitched tomorrow. The Zimbabwe Defence Forces will be doing their parade; they did their final rehearsals,” she said.
Mrs Kampila said food for the people and transport have all been arranged. She said tomorrow her office will go with State Occasions for a preparatory meeting to get assurance that all the gaps are closed and all loose ends are tightened.
“I can say our preparedness is 99 percent. We are all set for the day,” said Mrs Kampila.
She said there will also be a soccer match in the afternoon between Herentals and Scotland Academy.
“ZRP Band, Seke High 1 Band, choirs, drummers, poets, tug of war, all those things are lined up for the day,” said Mrs Kampila.
Chitungwiza Municipality spokesperson Mr Tafadzwa Kachiko said the council is ready and proud to host the province.
“Chitungwiza is honoured to be the host and everyone across Harare Metropolitan Province is welcome,” he said.
Mr Kachiko urged Chitungwiza residents to attend the Independence Day celebrations in their numbers.
“Residents of Chitungwiza, the celebrations have come home-let’s come out in our numbers to celebrate our hard-won independence,” he said.
