All set for Horse Power memorial tournament

AT least six local teams will participate in the Horse Power memorial tournament, an event that is meant to honour the late Madodana “Horse Power” Tshabangu who was the founder of the Horse Power tournament which was incepted in 1997.

Tshabangu died last year on 23 December in his 60s. The tournament will be on 1 July which will be the day of his memorial at Njube Desert Grounds where the first tournament was held.

Maradona “Horse Power” Tshabangu Junior the eldest son to the late Madodana said that they are holding the tournament in memory of his father who loved soccer and made sure the Horse Power tournament was a success every year.

“As a family we have decided to have a soccer tournament on his memorial day as a way of remembering the good things he did in the presence of his friends and those he uplifted,” said Tshabangu Junior. The Under-15 teams will open the event where Njube will Face Matshobana with the winner walking away with 15 pairs of socks, medals and a soccer ball. Tshabangu Junior said the four senior teams that will play at the main event are Njube, Lobengula and Emakhandeni will combine and come up with one team, Mzilikazi and Barbourfields will also combine with the fourt team being Central town. There are also prizes to be won.

“We also have challenge games where veteran players will participate, it is more of wafa wafa tournament where the winning team takes prizes which include a soccer kit, trophy and a winners banner,” he said.

The tournament will be sponsored by D&D Dog Breeders Association who will provide the prizes.
