All set for Miss Summer Strides

MISS Summer Strides has identified 25 models who will take part at this year’s pageant. The contestants auditioned at Lavinia Gardens on 1 and 5 November.

The 25 models are set to strut their stuff for the semi-finals which are billed for 14 November.

“We have managed to identify 14 models from our first audition and we also found another 11 models on our second audition which will add the number to the final 25 contestants.

“I was excited with the auditions because models with the right requirements of this pageant have come forward, which is a sign that this year’s edition will be big just like the previous ones,” said Sipho Mazibuko, the founder of Miss Summer Strides and Miss Rural Zimbabwe.

She also said that on the semi-finals, the list would be trimmed to 15 models who are going to compete at the finals which have been moved from 28 November to 6 December.

Lavinia Gardens still remains the venue for the finals.

“We have decided to shift the finals from the announced 28 November date to 6 December because we saw it not necessary for Miss Summer Strides to clash with the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards,” said Mazibuko.

The winner of the pageant will be given a contract and she will be working closely with South Africa’s Heads Modelling Agency in developing her career.

Miss Summer Strides was founded in 2003. However, it collapsed in 2007 because of the Zimbabwean economic situation.

It was relaunched this year.

Miss Summer Strides groomed and paved way for models including Alexander Sedgewick, Portia Ncube, Former Miss Earth South Africa Tamerin Jardine, Lorraine Maphala-Phiri, Samantha Tshuma and Bongani Dhlakama (all former Miss Zimbabwe), to mention a few.
