ALL is set for the belated Zifa Southern Region Division One League awards that will be held on today at a local hotel.

The region’s spokesperson Blessing Mbandwa confirmed that it was all systems go for the event that will see them honour individual players, teams and their partners.

“All is set for the function, it’s an awards ceremony that we did late but we are happy that we managed to stick to our word. We are going to honour individual players that did well last season. Teams that also performed well are going to be recognised and will be our partners,” said Mbandwa.

The past season was dominated by Arenel Movers who got the region’s sole ticket to Premier Soccer League (PSL) football. ZPC Hwange finished second and Talen Vision concluded their campaign as second runners-up.

However, financial challenges have continued to dog Division One clubs amid revelations by the league that four outfits CIWU, Indlovu Iyanyathela, DRC and Binga Pirates are facing the axe as they are not in good standing with the league. The clubs are said to be owing the league significant amounts of affiliation fees which they were expected to fully pay in the past season. Affiliation fees in the league range between US$1 500 to US$2 500 for both new clubs and league’s returnees.

The league annual general meeting (AGM) is set for March 23. Last season, the league was forced to expel former Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Zimbabwe Saints, Mountain Climbers and

Emakhandeni Pirates for failure to pay their affiliation fees and fulfil fixtures.  Mbwanda is on record saying they have accepted ex-PSL side Bulawayo City to re-join the league.
