All set for Zanu-PF elections

ALL is set for the Zanu-PF elections set for Saturday in the remaining seven provinces after the ad-hoc committee to superintend the polls met provincial chairpersons from the same regions and team leaders who will supervise the process. The elections for the main wing, women’s league and youth league would be held in Bulawayo, Harare, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Masvingo, Matabeleland North and South from 7am-7pm.

The polls would be conducted using a secret ballot at party district level where at least 102 members in each district are expected to cast their ballots for the leadership of their choice.

Zanu-PF national chairperson Cde Simon Khaya Moyo chaired the meeting that was also attended by secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa and secretary for the commissariat Cde Webster Shamu to implore the party leaders to ensure a flawless process.

“We were looking at the logistical arrangements ahead of the provincial elections and I must say we are satisfied,” said Cde Khaya Moyo who is also the National Elections Directorate chairperson.

“It is all systems go. We are satisfied that everybody is ready for the elections. We hope all the teams will be at the respective provincial headquarters before midday on Friday so that the necessary material can be disbursed to the polling stations on time.

“Team leaders are moving into provinces to conduct the elections and not to re-invent the wheel because all preparations have been undertaken by the commissariat department together with the departments of administration, transport and finance.”

Cde Khaya Moyo said the entire process was funded by the party hence the revolutionary party would not condone voting buying, improper conduct and any use of unacceptable enticements.

“We want a clean, transparent and thoroughly disciplined process. Nobody should interfere using their position during the process.

“The team leaders and their teams are totally mandated to be in charge of the elections. Any unacceptable behaviour by whosoever must be reported to the team leaders, who in turn will advise the national command centre for appropriate action.

“There must be total unity and total peace in the conduct of these elections. To smoothen the process, people should carry their national identity cards for easy identification. I only therefore wish all the candidates the best of luck,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

Politburo members would supervise elections in the seven provinces.

Chairpersons seeking re-election who attended yesterday’s meeting said everything went well adding that they were ready for the party elections.

“The meeting went very well. We agreed that elections must be held on Saturday from 7am-7pm. We were also introduced to the teams that will run the elections,” said Mashonaland West chairperson Cde John Mafa.

Cde Mafa would square off against former chairperson Cde Phillip Chiyangwa, party MP for Hurungwe West Cde Themba Mliswa, Cdes Nimrod Chiminya and Blessed Geza.

Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire would supervise the elections in the province.

Matabeleland South chairperson Cde Andrew Langa said they were happy with the outcome of the meeting.

“We are happy because we were introduced to the teams that will lead the elections. We were also briefed on how the elections would be conducted. We are satisfied with the brief from the national chairman (Cde SK Moyo).

“We hope that there will be sufficient resources to ensure the smooth running of elections because according to today’s meeting we were assured that everything is in place. Remember we are the ruling party that is organised. So we believe everything will go well,” said Cde Langa.

He would be fighting it out against Cde Lloyd Siyoka and Cde Phumuza Ndlovu.

The province would be supervised by Cde David Parirenyatwa.

Matabeleland North chairperson Cde Richard Moyo added: “It’s all systems go. The meeting went well. We are all ready.”

Cde Moyo would battle it out against his deputy Cde Reeds Dube while in Bulawayo, provincial chairperson Professor Callistus Ndlovu is being challenged by his deputy Cde Killian Sibanda and Cde Douglas Ndlovu.

Matabeleland North would be supervised by Cde Sydney Sekeramayi while Bulawayo would be supervised by Cde Ignatius Chombo.
In Harare province incumbent chairperson Cde Amos Midzi would square up against Mt Pleasant MP Cde Jaison Pasade in the election that would be supervised by Cde Sikhanyiso Ndlovu.

In Mashonaland East, provincial chairperson Cde Ray Kaukonde would square up against Cdes Phillemon Mutongi and Samuel Maisiri.
Cde Obert Mpofu would supervise the elections in the province.

In Masvingo Chiredzi North MP, Cde Robert Mukwena would fight it out against Rtd Brigadier General Callisto Gwanedza who is Chiredzi South legislator and former legislator in the same constituency Cde Ailes Baloyi.

Also contesting for the provincial chairperson’ post in the same province are Cdes Retired Major Benard Mazarire and Retired Major-General Mashingaidze.

Cde Nicholas Goche would supervise the polls in the province.
