All set for ‘ZimPups’ cricket festival

expected to get underway this morning with four teams taking part and will end on Monday.
The “ZimPups” Festival will allow Zimbabwe ’s finest Under-15 and Under-16 cricketers to showcase their talents and battle against the South Africans.
The five teams competing are Easterns of South Africa, the Zimbabwe Under-15 and Under-16 teams, the Zimbabwe Under-15 Invitation and the Zimbabwe Under-15 Select.
The Easterns’ Junior Cricket Club party of 13 players and four officials arrived yesterday.
The team is being coached by Lew van Dyk and managed by Rama Govenden.
Zimbabwe Cricket national development manager, Nick Singo, said the preparations have been going well and at all was now set for the festival.
“The preparations have been going on very well since we did our trials the beginning of April. We selected our national age-group teams to take part at the festival early so that we can give them enough time to train, ” Singo said.
Interest will centre on several players, including the dynamic and hard-hitting Ridgeview boy Tabayz Butt, making his debut for Zimbabwe Under-16, and the fiery St George’s College fast bowler Kundai Matigimu, whose pace matches that of the boys a year older. Sam Curran (St George’s) and Nic Welch (St John’s) were heavy run-getters in the early season while Keith Jaure (Prince Edward) looks a talented prospect as a bowler.  The festival will be enhanced by the active participation of Zimbabwe’s Test umpire, Russell Tiffin, and sponsors HRIB Insurance, RM Insurance and Interglobal, who are all supporting the provision of fine first-aid facilities, including ambulances.
