Rhumba musicians Allen “The ghost” Ndoda and Madalaboy are back with a sizzling album titled Impi Yamatshe that was recorded under their UkuJupita collaboration.
The album, that was launched in Johannesburg two weeks ago, is already playing popular among rhumba fans. It includes tracks Likhona Na?, Umangobongobo, Eqede ejika, Impi Yamatshe, Liyasewula and Udlala Ngami.
The album has the touch of former Ndolwane Super Sounds players — bassist Obert “Obija” Mvundla, rhymist Tumelo Kholwani Dube and drummer Galie Ncube.
According to the two musicians, the term ukuJupita is only found in the rhumba vocabulary.
“This is our fourth album under our collaboration UkuJupita which simply means ukuhlanganisa (merging). We formed the word because we’re collaborating and exchanging ideas in music,” said UK-based Ndoda who travelled to South Africa for the launch of the album at Hillbrow Theatre.
The duo’s manager, Peter Nkomo said the album that was recorded at TK Recording Studios and is only available on digital platforms.
“The album is different from past productions because the sound is different as we made use of the latest equipment in the recording industry. Our fans were clamouring for this album and I’m glad that we duly complied,” said Nkomo.
Nkomo said the greatest challenge in coming up with the album was conducting rehearsals online as Ndoda was in the UK.
On his part, Ndoda said he is now working on his next solo album with his Challengers band set to be released just in time for the festive season. — @themkhust
