Allow Zim to export diamonds: WFDB

its diamonds.
In a statement, WFDB president Mr Avi Paz called on KP members to resolve their internal disagreements on the issue of rough diamond exports from Zimbabwe.
KP members were further urged to take the essential and courageous decision to allow Zimbabwe to export rough diamonds from all diamond-mining areas in the country including Marange.
“The Kimberley Process, due to the deadlock in its decision-making process and its experts’ ensuing indecision to allow rough diamond exports from Zimbabwe to resume, is about to cause irreparable damage throughout the entire world and the supply pipeline of our industry and trade.
“It also threatens the livelihood of literally millions of people throughout the international diamond and jewellery sector,” said the WFDB president.
He went on to emphasise that the current deadlock in the KP’s decision-making will not only have some repercussions on the reputation of the diamond and jewellery sector, but also a significant part of the Zimbabwean economy that needs to be resuscitated.
“While the diamond industry and trade is in a position to contribute to the betterment of many Zimbabwean citizens, the inaction of the Kimberley Process, its members and its experts is now the major stumbling block towards real progress.
“In addition, if the Kimberley Process remains indecisive on Zimbabwe, there is a real danger that the relevance of the Kimberley Process itself will be at stake,” he said.
Mr Paz urged the KP to resolve the Zimbabwe issue and instructed all members of WFDB to continue to follow the KP and not to trade in rough diamonds without the proper certification.
“The Kimberley Process members and experts need to face reality and resolve the Zimbabwe issue once and for all. I urge them to do so quickly,” said Mr Paz.
