AMAKHOSI Cricket Club 1 head to Masvingo Sports Club this afternoon, determined to right the wrongs of their opening defeat when they meet defending champions SOGO Rangers in the second round of the 2025 National Premier League (NPL) T20 Blast.
The Bulawayo side, third in the 45-over edition of the country’s top club competition, were stunned by Takashinga Patriots 2 in a 63-run loss on Sunday. Now they are after an early statement win to get points on the board.
Coach Fleming Nkomo believes his men have sharpened up and can match the Harare giants.
“The boys have prepared well for this game, especially after that defeat against Takashinga 2.
“They were not happy; we didn’t perform at our best. But it’s a different format, getting used to it from 45 overs is a bit tough and we had to adjust.
“They are confident and ready to face SOGO Rangers. It’s a must-win game for us.
“If we can get our batters to score and our bowlers, who have been doing well since the 45-over games, continuing with their form, we will be in a good place. All around, the guys are ready and up for the task.
“The guys know it’s a must-win for us; we need to bounce back from that defeat. I know both teams want to win, so it won’t be an easy game, but the best team will emerge victorious,” said Nkomo.
Fellow Bulawayo side Queens Sports Club will also be chasing redemption when they face Gladiators at Kwekwe Sports Club. Queens fell by seven wickets to Rimuka Cricket Club in their opener.
Elsewhere, Old Hararians hosts a derby between Takashinga Patriots 1 and 2, while Rimuka takes on Alexandra Cricket Club at Alex Sports Club.
