THE sixth edition of the Amapiano festival will be held with a cause as attendees will paint the city pink in solidarity with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The event is set to take place on October 30 at The Venue with a Twist in Bulawayo with four DJs entertaining patrons. Group Therapy managing director, Vuyisile Ndlovu who is behind the event said they want to raise awareness and discuss the misconceptions around breast cancer.
“This is the sixth instalment of The Amapiano Festival since its inception in December last year. Besides music, entertainment, and food, people should expect to see a lot of pink, in addition to surprise acts in the form of female DJs that will grace this event,” Ndlovu said.
“Apart from raising awareness, this event will help remove the stigma around the topic. We’re also working on getting free cancer screening for women.”
Added Ndlovu: “Group Therapy is more than just an events and entertainment company. We’re aware of the influence that our events have and we’re committed to making sure that these platforms are used as tools to advocate for causes and raise awareness for issues such as health, wellness and social justice.”
He encouraged men to consider breast cancer screening as studies have proven that they are also prone to it.
“Cancer, just like mental health issues that we shine a light on, can be stopped in its tracks, only if we take raising awareness seriously. Medical studies have in the past shown that breast cancer can affect both men and women. However, there is always this belief that breast cancer is a women’s disease so these issues will be tackled at the event.
“It’s necessary for men to take this seriously. If not for themselves, then for their mothers, sisters, wives, daughters and girlfriends. We always joke about the phrase ‘squeeze a boob to save a life’ but men should take breast cancer screening seriously.” – @SeehYvonne
