Ambassador Victor Matemadanda declared national hero

President Mnangagwa has conferred national hero status on the late Zimbabwe envoy to Mozambique and Eswatini, Ambassador Victor Matemadanda, in recognition of his contribution to the liberation struggle and service to the nation.

Zanu PF Secretary for External Affairs, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, announced this to the Matemadanda family this evening.

Ambassador Matemadanda served Zimbabwe as envoy to Maputo and Mbabane before his death.

Ambassador Matemadanda’s role in the liberation struggle and subsequent diplomatic service have been cited as grounds for the honour.

National hero status is Zimbabwe’s highest honour, reserved for individuals recognised for exceptional service to the country.

Burial arrangements and details of the interment are expected to be announced in due course.
