THE African Methodist Episcopal Church, Kenilworth station in Matabeleland North province recently donated a consignment of goods to a local school, Longwe primary.
The church donated a computer, printer, one box of bond paper and stationery. The church also donated uniforms in the form of white shirts, sun hats and ties to 12 prefects who included head girl and head boy. The school also got mass display equipment for the Early Childhood Development class. The consignment was valued at US$550.

“The reason of the donation is to upgrade the school in terms of technology so that they are able to do their work at the school. In the past, the school administration used to travel for about 30km just to access printing services. As a church we are part of this community. Some of these children and their parents are members of our church, so we saw it fit to assist so that the learning environment is improved,” said Reverend Precious Ncube from Kenilworth AME Church.

The headmaster of the school, Mr Mlungisi Ngwenya, expressed his gratitude to the church for the donation.
“We are very much thankful to the church for this donation. We are now like schools in towns and cities because we can now use the computer to do our write ups and also print here at school. The children will also get a chance to learn how to use a computer, and not be taught theory only. The donation of shirts, ties and hats to our prefects will also motivate them to work harder,” he said.
The handover ceremony, held at the school, was attended by members of the School Development Committee, Ward 19 councillor, and officials from Bubi Rural District Council and parents.
