The biggest urban arts showcase, Shoko Festival kicks off tonight with a highly anticipated performance by man-of-the-moment comedian Learnmore Jonasi, also known as Long John, at Harare Gardens.
Jonasi, who last week made it into the finals of America Got Talent but missed out on the grand prize of US$1 million arrived in the country yesterday from his United States base.
Shoko Festival director Samm Monro said the exclusive performance will be the comedian’s homecoming show as he celebrates his latest conquest.
“Shoko Comedy Night will be a huge night for Zimbabwean stand-up comedy with the homecoming show of Zimbabwe’s comedian Learnmore Jonasi,” he said.
“Jonasi will grace Shoko Comedy Night in a special homecoming show, making it his first Zimbabwe appearance since appearing on America’s Got Talent.”
Jonasi will share the stage with fellow comedians Tanya Alex, Tinashe “This Is It” and beat-boxer cum rapper Pro Beatz.
Meanwhile, the festival will host 15 artists tomorrow at the same venue for the Mash-Up Night featuring South African-based hip-hop queen Nadia Nakai and Kayflow.
As has become tradition, the festival will fulfill its obligation to the ghetto fan base through its annual Peace In The Hood concert at the Unit L Community Hall Grounds in Chitungwiza.
This event will give music lovers from Chitungwiza and surrounding areas a chance to see top trending musicians in the form of dancehall star Master H, and celebrated hip hop musicians Voltz JT and Young Gemini who are both making waves with recently released albums.
Pop musician Tamy Moyo will also be part of the line-up of artists to perform in Chitungwiza.
“We are so excited to present powerful new Zimbabwean urban acts and unique programming that challenges the norm and stirs things up,” said Monro.
“Shoko 2024 is going to be a coming together of urban culture from both North and South of Samora as we kick off the festival in Harare City Centre and then take it out to the hood in Chitungwiza.”
