AFRICA’S richest man Mr Aliko Dangote’s decision to invest over US$1 billion in Zimbabwe could position the country as a hub for cement, oil and fertiliser supply in Southern Africa, analysts have said.
His net worth is estimated to be between US$26,2 billion and US$30,6 billion as of November 2025, making him the wealthiest person in Africa.
The analysts said Mr Dangote’s renewed interest in investing in Zimbabwe, after a previous attempt in 2015, was a massive vote of confidence in Zimbabwe’s improving business environment under the Second Republic.
His endorsement followed the signing of a global agreement with the Zimbabwean Government, outlining his group’s interest in the energy, cement, fertiliser and infrastructure sectors.
In recognition of the progress Zimbabwe has made, Mr Dangote commended President Mnangagwa for restoring investor confidence through bold economic transformation and reforms.
Economist and member of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), Mr Persistence Gwanyanya, said the second coming of Mr Dangote into the country not only speaks to the abundance of opportunities, but also to the improvement in the business environment that is supporting thriving business ventures.
“Given the country’s resources, it’s unsurprising that Africa’s richest man continues to show interest in investing in Zimbabwe.
“We understand he has strong interests and footprints in the manufacturing sector, specifically sugar and cement, but also infrastructure, including electricity, among others and opportunities to invest in these areas are abundant, and commendably, we understand the Dangote Group signed a MOU with the Government of Zimbabwe,” he said.
