The ruling against Julius Malema was delivered live on national television from central Johannesburg on Thursday. Malema was also found guilty of disrupting a national ANC meeting, but found not guilty on allegations of sowing racism or political intolerance.
“The act of going to a meeting of the national officials uninvited constitutes a breach” of ANC rules, Derek Hanekom, the chairman of the ANC’s disciplinary committee, said on the charge of disrupting a national meeting.
Malema, who is facing suspension or expulsion from the ANC because of alleged insubordination, has a large following in South Africa.
Some analysts say that President Jacob Zuma’s ability to seek a second term could depend on Malema’s support. -Al Jazeera
