Zanu-PF shadow legislator for Southerton constituency and founder of the Andrew Makahamadze Foundation, Cde Andrew Makahamadze, has received the First Edition of the Kiran Jack Floating Trophy.
Cde Makahamadze, who was announced as the winner of the prestigious Kiran Jack’s Floating Trophy for 2025 in recognition of his compassion, leadership and community empowerment late last year, received the trophy on Saturday.
The Kiran Jack Floating Trophy honours the legacy of the late Kiran Jack, a young man remembered for courage, service and community spirit, who died last year in April at the age of 23.
Cde Makahamadze reflected developments done since 2019 through the Andrew Makahamadze Foundation and Southerton Constituency Community Development Trust.
He said their emphasis is on projects that empower women, support vendors with interest-free loans, and uplift vulnerable groups.
“As ZANU-PF DCC secretary for business in Harare province zone 6, mainly we support the vision of the president, NDS2 and Vision2030,” he said.
“So we are focusing on uplifting the vulnerable groups, including people living with disabilities.”
Cde Makahamadze said that the award was not his alone, but belonged to God, his family, the institutions he serves (ZANU-PF).
“I acknowledge President Mnangagwa’s teachings on protecting the poor and working with honesty,” he said after receiving the award.
Mr Matthew Tambling, who was a father figure to the late Kiran Jack, said that the award honours those who embody humility, courage, and service.
“The recipients’ work reminds us that meaningful change begins at the community level. Community service, commitment, and compassion are the foundations of resilient communities,” he said.
“This ceremony celebrates those who lend a hand without seeking applause, who step forward when others step back, and who strengthen the very fabric of our society.
“This award recognises individuals and organisations, whose dedication to community service has made a meaningful and tangible difference.”
The ceremony highlighted the alignment of grassroots initiatives with the national Vision 2030 agenda, reinforcing the belief that sustainable progress is rooted in community empowerment and collective responsibility.
Southlea Pvt Hospital and Highview Pvt Clinics managing director, Dr Eliot Chikati, paid tribute to his friend Cde Makahamadze, praising his charity work and collaborative spirit.
“Helping people is not an issue of having a lot but seeing a need and jumping in to help your fellow man is what we strive for daily.”
This ceremony reinforced the theme of service as a cornerstone of national development under Vision 2030.
