Andy, Mai Keketso’s never-ending war

BREAK-UPS in the celebrity world rarely stay private.

Once love fades, the real battle often begins — not in silence, but in public, on social media, in interviews, and sometimes even in court.

Hollywood has long mastered this ugly art of turning heartbreak into headline drama.

One of the most talked-about modern examples is the turbulent split between rapper Kanye West and reality star Kim Kardashian.

What started as a high-profile marriage quickly unravelled into a public storm of emotional posts, accusations, and heated online exchanges. Kanye’s outbursts on social media, combined with Kim’s carefully controlled public statements, turned their separation into a global spectacle.

Every move was dissected, from custody discussions to co-parenting tensions — proving that in the celebrity world, even silence speaks volumes. Before that, another Hollywood split between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard showed just how explosive a celebrity divorce can become when the courtroom drama merges with social media warfare.

Allegations, counter-allegations, leaked statements and viral clips turned a personal relationship breakdown into a worldwide talking point.

Now, that same familiar script appears to have found its way into Zimbabwe’s entertainment scene and at the centre of it are Afro-fusion star Andy Muridzo and his ex-wife Chido Manyange, popularly known as Mai Keketso.

What began as a private separation years ago has evolved into one of the most persistent celebrity feuds in local showbiz history, with both parties repeatedly returning to social media to air grievances, defend themselves, and accuse each other of wrongdoing.

This week, Muridzo once again set tongues wagging after launching a fresh verbal attack on his former partner.

In a statement that immediately spread across social media platforms, the Jeetaz Band frontman appeared frustrated and emotionally-drained by the ongoing fallout.

“She is bitter and broke. It’s time for her to move on with her life,” Muridzo said in comments published by Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub. His remarks reignited debate among fans, with some questioning why the dispute continues to play out so publicly, while others defended his right to respond.

Muridzo insisted he had reached his limit, saying he is tired of what he describes as repeated attempts to damage his image through online platforms. In a lengthy social media post, the musician also appealed to the public to intervene in what he now sees as a deeply personal but increasingly public crisis.

“If there are rights activists in Zimbabwe, or if there are therapists, can they help this woman for the sake of my kids?” he wrote.

At the heart of the dispute are their children, with Muridzo claiming his biggest concern is their well-being amid ongoing conflict.

He insisted that, despite public perception, he continues to provide financial support.

“I pay everything for my kids,” he said, adding that he has endured years of criticism while choosing to remain silent for the sake of peace.

The singer also claimed he has tried to disengage from the drama entirely.

“I blocked her everywhere,” he added, suggesting that communication between the former couple has broken down completely.

But as has become routine in their ongoing saga, Mai Keketso quickly responded with her own set of explosive allegations.

In posts shared on social media, she challenged Muridzo’s claims and accused him of failing to meet his parental responsibilities.

“You don’t take care of your children, right now the quads think that your kids are in boarding school, but stay here suffering what is it that you have? What is it to be better about?

“Dai wangofa taziya kuti hauko vana inherera. That uncle has been taking care of your children and paying their bills uripo,” she posted.

She insisted that she had been the primary caregiver and questioned the accuracy of his public statements regarding the children’s welfare. Her response ensured that the feud once again dominated online conversations, with supporters of both sides trading accusations across comment sections and social platforms.

The result is a cycle that appears difficult to break — one statement triggers another, one accusation leads to a counter-claim, and the public is left to pick sides.

Observers say the situation reflects a growing trend in celebrity relationships where personal disputes are no longer contained behind closed doors, but are instead amplified by digital platforms. The Muridzo-Mai Keketso saga has now stretched over years, with recurring disputes around child maintenance, custody, and allegations of neglect. Each episode follows a familiar pattern: emotional statements, public backlash, and renewed tension.

Yet what makes this particular feud stand out is its persistence —  even as both parties attempt to move forward, the conflict keeps resurfacing.

Fans who have followed the story from the beginning say it has evolved from a relationship breakdown into a full-blown public battle, with no clear resolution in sight.

And just like in Hollywood, where celebrity break-ups often become long-running media franchises, Zimbabwe’s entertainment scene now appears to be witnessing its own version of the same phenomenon.

The difference, however, is that in this local version, there are no scripted episodes — only raw emotion, real accusations, and a public audience that never stops watching.

For Muridzo and Mai Keketso, the stage is no longer a concert arena or a private home.

It is social media. And every post is another scene in a drama that refuses to end.

As the noise grows louder, one thing becomes clear — in the age of digital fame, even break-ups have become performances. And this one is still playing out.

In the end, as the saying goes, when two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. In this case, the loud exchanges and public accusations may grab headlines, but the real impact often lands closer to home — on the children caught in the middle. Questions linger about what they will say at school when classmates hear fragments of a very public dispute, and how they will be perceived by friends who only know their story through social media noise.

Beyond the drama and counter-claims, many observers argue that what is needed most is not another round of statements, but calm reflection, guidance and, where possible, counselling — a space where emotions can settle and co-parenting can be rebuilt away from the glare of the public eye.
