ANGOLA has officially taken over from Zimbabwe as chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Inter-State Defence and Security Committee Human Resources Working Group (HRWG).
This transition occurred at the closing ceremony of the HRWG annual meeting in Harare yesterday.
Vice Admiral Goncalo Lourenco De Souasa of the Angola Defence Forces is now the new chairman.
The HRWG plays a crucial role in ensuring that the SADC Standby Force is adequately staffed and prepared for peacekeeping missions.
In his closing remarks, Major-General Augustine Chipwere, Chief of Staff Administration Staff of the Zimbabwe National Army, emphasised the importance of the HRWG in enhancing the operational readiness of the SADC Standby Force.
“The frameworks discussed here will guide our human resources and ensure that they meet the unique requirements and demands of operations necessitated by emerging and non-traditional security threats,” he said.
