Meanwhile, Bogdanov said Syrian opposition leader Michel Kilo and Abdulbaset Sieda, newly elected head of Syria’s opposition umbrella group Syrian National Council (SNC), will head two separate delegations to Russia. Kilo will arrive in Moscow later this week while Sieda is to kick off his visit on July 10, Bogdanov said.
“It is important to exert maximum efforts to implement Kofi Annan’s plan and the resolutions of the Geneva conference and the action group,” he said.
The action group, comprising world powers, met Saturday in Geneva and agreed upon a roadmap that is expected to pave the way for a Syrian-led transition to end
the country’s 16-month conflict. A joint communique after the meeting said the international community wished to see “an end to violence and human rights abuses” in Syria and the Syrian people enjoying rights to “independently and democratically determine their own future.” — Xinhua.
