Anointing of the Holy Spirit

Pauline Matanda

“HOW God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” — Acts 10:38.

The anointing is the invisible power of God that enables a person to accomplish tasks in a supernatural way.

Simply put, anointing is the presence of God working in and through a person’s life. It is like a spiritual mantle or covering that empowers people to do amazing things for God.

The anointing enabled Jesus Christ to do the good only and shun the evil. In other words, He could only love and not hate or hurt. That is why He could heal “all” who were oppressed.

This anointing was not just a one-off event, but a continuous reality in Jesus’ life. The verse also points out that God was with Jesus throughout this process. This shows that the anointing is not just about having power, but is also about being in a relationship with God.

First, we need to have a relationship with God. Just as Jesus was connected to God, we also need to seek a personal relationship with Him.

Second, we need to be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit. The anointing is not something we can manipulate, but it comes as a gift from God.

Third, we need to be willing to use the anointing for God’s purposes, not our own.

We can all be anointed to bring God’s love and healing to the world.

The anointing literally changes someone from being a natural, ordinary individual to a supernatural person.

In 1 Samuel 10:6, the anointing turned Saul into another man. “And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.”

The scripture talks about how the anointing can transform us and help us do things we never thought possible. Saul started prophesying; he had been changed into another man after he was filled with the Holy Spirit.

This year, there are things that require you to be a supernatural man/woman for you to overcome or accomplish something.

Ask God to anoint you for every assignment that needs to be done this year. The anointing gives you an added advantage and you need this to take you through the year.

There are many purposes and benefits of the anointing. One of the main purposes is to help us fulfil God’s calling and plan for our lives. The anointing equips us with the spiritual gifts we need to do the work God has called us to perform; for it is not by might nor by power but by the Spirit of the Lord.

The anointing helps us to overcome spiritual battles and obstacles. It gives us strength and wisdom to navigate difficult situations and make the right decisions.

The anointing also brings joy, peace and a sense of fulfilment. This is what we need in 2024.

Let us ask God to anoint us. Let us open our inner man and show God that we are hungry for the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
