South Africa’s anti-smuggling task team has nabbed another suspect who was driving a stolen vehicle heading towards the Limpopo River.
The 44-year-old man was on Monday intercepted with a Toyota Fortuner that had been stolen in Gauteng Province.
Of late there has been an increase in syndicates stealing vehicles from South Africa and smuggling them to either Malawi, Zambia or Mozambique via Zimbabwe.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malasela Ledwaba said they received information about the stolen Toyota Fortuner.
“The police reacted swiftly and commenced investigations to locate the motor vehicle,” he said.
“The motor vehicle was stopped and an investigation about its origin was conducted.

“Police discovered that the motor vehicle was reported stolen on 31 July, 2024 in Pretoria, Gauteng Province.
“A 44-year-old male suspect was immediately placed under arrest. Preliminary investigations revealed that the motor vehicle was supposed to be smuggled into Zimbabwe via Beitbridge Border Post.”
Col Ledwaba said the suspect will soon appear before the Polokwane Magistrates Court facing a charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
