ANOTHER elephant carcass has been found at Ndolwane area in Bulilima District in a suspected case of cyanide poisoning, bringing to 109 the number of jumbos killed so far.The cases of elephant poisoning which have been reported in Hwange National Park and Ngamo Forest have spilled into Bulilima District.
On Sunday, two carcasses were discovered in the same area in Bulilima, 101 at Hwange National Park and five were found at Ngamo Forest, an area in Lupane, after they were poisoned by poaching syndicates.
Bulilima Rural District Council’s chief executive officer Mr John Brown Ncube said the carcass was discovered on Monday during an operation by a team of officers from different Government departments.
“Three elephant carcasses have been discovered so far in Ndolwane area. The third one was discovered on Monday about 900 metres from where the other two elephants were found dead.
“It was spotted by a team that was surveying the area in an aircraft. A team that is conducting aerial surveys around the area was deployed on Monday and they are carrying out checks to identify other related incidents of dead elephants,” said Mr Ncube.
He said they could not ascertain where the elephants had come from.
