THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Mberengwa East Member of Parliament Tasara Hungwe on allegations related to the misuse of Constituency Development Funds.

In a statement yesterday, ZACC confirmed the arrest, saying Hungwe is facing a charge of concealing a personal interest in transactions linked to the fund.

“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission confirms the arrest of Member of Parliament for Mberengwa East Constituency, Tasara Hungwe, on a charge of concealing a personal interest in transactions linked to the use of the Constituency Development Funds,” the commission said.

Hungwe has since appeared before the Mberengwa Magistrate’s Court and was remanded out of custody until April 1.

The anti-graft body said more details regarding the case would be released soon.

His arrest follows that of Chiredzi South legislator Joel Sithole for allegedly abusing ZWG$1,2 million (about US$50 000) Constituency Development Funds.

He appeared at the Masvingo Magistrates Court and was given a US$500 bail and was remanded Sithole to April 24.
