HIGHLANDERS players who are owed four months salaries, yesterday boycotted training to push management to address their problem.
Responding to the strike, management said efforts were underway to resolve the crisis.
The players’ refusal to train yesterday adds to a growing list of disruptions that have hit the Bulawayo giants this season over outstanding payments.
Highlanders chairman Kindman Ndlovu said the executive was engaging the club’s donors and sponsors.
Ndlovu said the leadership was also engaging the players directly to ensure they understand the situation facing the club and the efforts underway to address their problem.
“We acknowledge that our players have gone for four months without salaries, and as the executive we are fully aware of the difficulties this has created,” said Ndlovu.
He said the executive was therefore engaging the club donors and sponsors to assist in addressing the problem.
The latest standoff comes at a time Bosso have their eyes on winning the Chibuku Super Cup and finishing strongly in the Premier Soccer League.
Coach Benjani Mwaruwari is therefore facing a challenge of keeping his squad focused despite the non-payment of salaries.
The salary crisis has repeatedly affected Highlanders’ preparations this season, with players having downed tools on several occasions over outstanding payments.
