Miss Universe Zimbabwe board member Apphia Nyasha Musavengana has resigned from her position, bringing an end to her tenure with the organisation.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Musavengana described her time on the board as both a privilege and an honour, saying she was grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a platform she believes plays an important role in the empowerment and development of young Zimbabwean women.
“It has been a privilege and an honour to serve on the Board of Miss Universe Zimbabwe and to contribute, in my capacity, to an organisation that provides a meaningful platform for the empowerment, development and advancement of young women in Zimbabwe,” she said.
Musavengana said she remained convinced of the importance of the pageant as a platform for young women to build confidence, develop leadership skills and amplify their voices while creating opportunities to make meaningful contributions to society.
“I sincerely believe that Miss Universe Zimbabwe is an important platform for young women to develop their confidence, leadership abilities and voices, while creating opportunities for them to make a positive contribution to society.
“I am grateful to have been part of an organisation whose vision and work can have such a meaningful impact,” she said.
While she did not disclose the reasons behind her decision, Musavengana said her resignation had been made after careful consideration and with appreciation for the opportunity she had been given to serve.
“My decision to resign is made with careful consideration and appreciation for the opportunity to have served. I remain supportive of the organisation’s objectives and wish the Board, management, contestants and the entire Miss Universe Zimbabwe family continued success in the future,” she said.
Musavengana also expressed her appreciation to the Miss Universe Zimbabwe leadership, fellow board members and the wider team for their collaboration and support during her time on the board.
“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to you, Madam Chairperson, the CEO, my fellow Board Members and the wider team for the collaboration, support and experiences during my time on the Board,” she said.
She said she would continue to support the organisation’s objectives and wished Miss Universe Zimbabwe success as it continues its work of creating opportunities for and empowering young women.
“I wish Miss Universe Zimbabwe every success as it continues to provide opportunities and empower the next generation of young Zimbabwean women,” she said.
Musavengana’s resignation comes at a time when the Miss Universe Zimbabwe board is under scrutiny following its decision to dethrone Miss Cosmo Zimbabwe 2026, Malaika Mushandu, just days into her reign under circumstances that remain unclear.
