ZIMBABWE Miners Federation president Henrietta Rushwaya will spend another weekend in remand prison after the Anti-Corruption Court at the High Court today postponed sentencing to Tuesday next week.

Rushwaya was last week convicted for smuggling 6kg of gold worth more than US$333 000 to Dubai three years ago and was remanded in custody pending sentence today.

However, Justice Pisirayi Kwenda postponed the matter to next week for the defence, and State counsel to address the court on the sentencing in terms of the new guidelines.

The victim, in this case Zimra, is likely to be called to give an “impact assessment report” on how the crime committed by Rushwaya prejudiced the revenue authority.

It is not clear whether Fidelity Printers will also be called to give its input.

Rushwaya was heading to Dubai when she was arrested for smuggling gold through the VIP route at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on October 26, 2020.
