A SUCCESSFUL anti-drug fashion pre-school event which featured three schools and over a thousand attendants was held at Gwanda on Saturday.
Organised by ABC Promotions’ Talent Khumalo, Saturday’s campaign was also attended by the Mayor of Gwanda Town, Alderman Thulani Moyo with the participating children displaying their ingenuity across various disciplines.
The schools represented were Disney Primary School, Lolies Primary and Little Explorers. The Mayor also supported the occasion through a donation.
The children were given the opportunity to express themselves through the art of fashion and self-beauty. It was the biggest anti-drug campaign in the town with the pre-school children showcasing their talents across modelling fashion shows, Drum majorettes, cultural dances, speeches and boxing.
Boxing was led by Underdogs founder, Clinton Walderman.
Khumalo said she was pleased to have hosted an event of such magnitude and having the Mayor bless them meant a lot, not only to them as organisers but also to the children.
“Having the mayor of Gwanda grace the event means a lot not only to ABC Promotion but to the children because the Mayor’s involvement can also help address the social and economic impacts of substance abuse and overall, having the mayor of Gwanda on board with the anti-drug campaign can bring valuable lead,” said Khumalo.
As Zimbabwe battles against drugs and substance abuse, Khumalo said their recent campaign was crucial in educating the young generation about the negative impacts of engaging in such damaging activities that can ruin their futures.
“The campaign was extremely crucial in educating children about the dangers of drugs and substance use and the campaign effectively reached a large number of children, educating them about the risks and consequences of drug abuse and social harm caused by substance abuse.
“They (children) learnt skills and strategies to resist peer pressure and make informed decisions,” she said.
Having hosted such a successful campaign, Khumalo said their goal as ABC Visionary is to help children achieve their goals as she believes that the young are the country’s future.
“As ABC Promotion, our mission is to empower children to achieve their goals through holistic development programs. My inspiration was understanding that young minds are the future leaders of tomorrow. It is important to educate and raise awareness from a tender age. A lot of people focus on teenagers,” she said.
From the campaign on Saturday, the participating children managed to gain valuable lessons.
Through modelling, they learnt how to build confidence, self-esteem, and positive body image while in boxing they gathered knowledge in developing physical strength, mental toughness, and self-defence skills.
Those who took part in drum majorettes learnt cultivating rhythm, coordination, teamwork, academic guidance and mentorships.
