A GROUP of South Africa-based Zimbabweans is trying to urge people not to attend this year’s edition of the Kalawa Homecoming show, where they feel the selection of some of the headlining artistes does not fit the criteria.
Taking their campaign to Facebook — which has been hash tagged Zojaivawedwa they said Bulawayo born Kalawa music boss Oskido must have been out of his mind when he approved Dancehall King Winky D and Jah Prayzah to perform at the annual gig.
“Mara Oskido, Homecoming and you bring abo Jah Prayzah and Winky something really? Who exactly is coming home here?
Whose home and who are they coming to? Angcono syeke (we would rather not attend). Kutheni unga-promote ama-artist akoBulawayo aseGoli (Why don’t you promote South Africa based Zimbabweans?) (for a start) wenzele bona lumcimbi ngoba phela i-home esegudwini ingeyabo (Do it for them because that’s the essence of a homecoming party . . .
‘Or uyeke oKhuxman labo Fortue Dawu leNdolwane bengayenza i-show syahamba vele syeba-supporter (Or let Khuxman, Fortue Dawu and Ndolwane host a show we will attend and support them instead of yours).
#Loveyourroots ma uhlakaniphile (if you are smart) EkaJah Prayzah uzosinompola emanzini alesoda umngcii nkos phezulu (we won’t come), #Zojaivawedwa,” wrote Angela Thulie Sibanda, a South Africa based Zimbabwean, who features on one of that country’s popular soapies Scandal.
People that commented on the post said they felt Oskido was doing a disservice to South Africa-based Zimbabwean artistes.
Nhlanhla Mthwakazian Qho Ndlovu wrote, “Vele uyabheda uOskido senyenyela u Jah Prayzah ngoba evele emthola ephakanyisiwe okunye akukho fair. (Oskido is out of his mind, why does he want to promote Jah Prayzah who is already well established).”
Angela further commented: “Our artists are suffering and need exposure and promotion and this is the route he takes?”
She added “This is like having students from another school at your Matric dance.”
