The amazing talent that the duo from Plumtree, Sobancane (real name Josphat Jikinya) and Aphiwe Surprise Moyo (Muntuza), have is out of this world as they have caught the attention of many with their incredible talent.
The two artistes, who launched their debut album Imibuzo this year, are slowly being sought after across the region.
Recently, the duo was in Bulawayo where they were preparing for their show at the Bulawayo Theatre next month.
During their visit, they had interviews at Skyz Metro FM and Nust FM in preparation for the show slated for October 28.
The fact that Sobancane can play the guitar despite being blind is what amazes a lot of people.
In an interview with this reporter, Sobancane said he started working with Aphiwe when he was still in primary school. Now, he is in Form 3, learning at Vimila High School. He said the boy would always visit him at his house and together, they would sing random songs.
“I started working with Aphiwe when he was in Grade Four. He would pass by my home after school and play with his friends. Whenever he saw me singing, he’d come and say ‘uncle, I also want to sing’. That’s how it all started. I told him that whenever he knocks off after school, and on weekends, he should come so that we sing.
“This led to us releasing our first song titled Umoya Wami,” said Sobancane.
Now, the two are making a name for themselves as video clips of their performances have gone viral on social media platforms with people awed by the talent they possess.
Sobancane said they have been received well by their local community members who have gone the extra mile and teamed up to raise funds to build a modern two-roomed house for him in Plumtree.
“I’m very happy about the house. Although it’s not yet complete, construction is progressing well. What’s left is flooring and roofing,” said a content Sobancane.
Moving forward, the artistes said they would love to see themselves as singers who are well-known and recognised the world over.
“We want to see ourselves as top singers and have our own group called Aphiwe and Sobancane. We don’t want our music to end here, but we want to expand it as far as possible,” said Sobancane.
On his part, Aphiwe said he cannot wait to perform in Bulawayo, urging people to come in numbers to support them as their dream is to fill up the venue.
“Our wish is to fill up the Bulawayo Theatre on the day,” said Aphiwe. Sobancane also invited people to support them on the day. —@Tasha Mutsiba
