A majority of household heads in Matabeleland North province go to the Apostolic Sect religion, a 2024 Zimbabwe Livelihood Assessment Committee (ZimLAC) for the province has revealed.
Those who believe in the Pentecostal religion, according to the report, account for 16.9 percent while 17.9 percent are Zion and 15.3 percent do not believe in any religion.
Statistics revealed by ZimLAC show that 21.3 percent of household heads in the province were mainly from the Apostolic Sect with Umguza district having the highest percentage of 27.3 percent followed by Nkayi at 21.7 percent.
The report also shows that 12.7 percent of household heads are Protestants. A protestant is a member or follower of any of the Western Christian Churches that are separate from the Roman Catholic Church in accordance with the principles of the Reformation, including the Baptist, Presbyterian, and Lutheran Churches.
The Roman Catholic Church accounts for 9.1 percent of household heads in the province with Hwange having the highest number at 21.1 percent, followed by Lupane (13.3 percent) while the rest of the district have less than 10 percent Catholics.
Binga district has the highest number of Pentecostal (31.9) and traditional (9.6) religion believers in the province (31.9) while a majority of household heads in Tsholotsho are Zionists (30.3 percent) with Pentecostal accounting for 21 percent.
