Chauya Chikwata beat a Nancy Mlambo-led Parkview Kanka 20-19 to complete a miserable mid-week for the Parkview clubs after their senior team Parkview Lions also fell to a steamrolling Railstars. The National Railways of Zimbabwe prevailed 23-16 to take their points tally to five, a point behind leaders Archers.
It is however the fairytale run by the Mkhululi Dube-captained Archers that has brought in some excitement into the league, especially that they have accounted for one of the four ‘big boys’ of the league.
The Vaiton Refrigeration sponsored side is however still to meet third-placed Highlanders, champions Ah-Sat and the Charles Widzisa captained Railstars.
There was an exchange of blows at Archers club as the visitors could not stomach the defeat of their captain Tapera Makado in a battle of the captains.
With Dube about to close an 18, the visitors alleged that the pairings were not done accordingly and as such they wanted the game to be stopped. It was then that some ugly scenes erupted until the two captains agreed to restart.
Makado went on the rampage until he was left with a one tops to finish off the game while Archers captain Dube had a huge bill of 340 to clear. As fate would have it, Makado kept on missing his target until Dube miraculously closed play.
A Supermed Pharmacy bankrolled Bosso was in their usual ruthlessness, showing total disrespect for their hosts Zimbabwe School of Mines whom they beat 31-8 and it is the high number of legs won that might come to Bosso’s rescue if the title has to be decided by that.
Last week they hammered Maison Nic 30-9.
Reigning champions Ah-Sat prevailed over visiting Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) 22-17, a result that is a bit worrying for them as those 17 legs lost could cost them. The team seems to be showing signs of fatigue after playing the whole of last season with virtually the same players. The sooner they start grooming youngsters the better for Derrick Pillay, Ndumiso Tshuma, Wayne Brandt, Siphetha Sibanda and company.
Ironically, Brandt, in his capacity as the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts Association chairman, has been advocating for a juniors’ league in the province.
At Wisewaters, a Merlin Dah Bafana-led home side added to the woes of visitors Bellevue, to record only their second win in five matches, winning 24-15 while Zimbabwe Saints took full use of their home dart boards to narrowly win 20-19 over Parkview Kanka.
